The Plainfield Area Interfaith Food Pantry is 100% dependent on a strong network of volunteers to perform its daily operations.

Who can Volunteer

Individuals and volunteer organizations are welcome. However we cannot accept current clients, except in cases where a specific skill is needed.  Groups of 2 or more should call in advance at 815-439-8394 to make appropriate arrangements.

Community Service

Volunteers attempting to fulfill community service hours should call in advance for more information and to confirm availability.

Interested volunteers and volunteer organizations are asked to complete a short Volunteer Application and Information Sheet and to sign the Plainfield Area Interfaith Food Pantry Confidentiality Agreement to protect the rights of its clients.

Due to space limitations at our distribution facility, new and ad hoc volunteers should call in advance to confirm if additional volunteers are needed for a specific date.

In addition to the distribution dates listed on our home page, volunteers may be needed during various unscheduled times during the year. Food Drives are often delivered (or must be picked up) with very short notice. Sorting and shelving is usually done during the morning or afternoon hours on non-distribution / non-delivery dates.

Typical Volunteer Activities

  • Local food pickup (vehicle needed).  Scheduled M,W,Th & Fr a.m. at groceries plus ad hoc donation pickups
  • Receiving scheduled food deliveries
  • Stocking and rotating food and dry goods
  • Packing bags / boxes for client distribution

  • Computer data entry
  • Interpreting / Translating
  • Outside traffic control on distribution days
  • Receiving / sorting donations
  • Maintenance
  • Cleaning
  • Assist carrying food to cars on distribution days
  • Other as needed
